Abstract

Background: The method of draining the pancreatic pseudocyst through gastroduodenal endoscopy was considered an effective method and avoiding complications. Objectives: To determine the success rate, failure, and early complications of the stenting technique to drain the pancreatic pseudocyst through gastroduodenal endoscopy; determine the time of stent removal, the rate of complications, and death within 6 months after stent placement to drain the pancreatic pseudocyst. Materials and methods: All patients were diagnosed with pancreatic pseudocyst and treated by endoscopic gastroduodenal drainage at Cho Ray Hospital from 01/01/2018 to 1/1/ 2021 (3 years). Results: During 3 years, we intervened for 55 patients with pancreatic pseudocyst by endoscopic drainage. The male/Female ratio was 5.11/1; the mean age was 41 ± 15.4 years old. The success rate of the technique was 96.4%, the failure rate of the stent was 3.6% (2 patients could not have stents); The rate of early complications after stenting was 5.7% (3/53 patients), including 1 case of gastrointestinal bleeding (1.9%) and 2 cases (3.8%) of infectious complications. The mean time of stent removal was 4.96 ± 4.01 months. Following up for 6 months, we recorded: the rate of pancreatic pseudocyst completely regressed at 94.3%; the complication rate was 5.7%, including 1 case of pancreatic abscess and 2 cases (3.9%) recurred after 3 months of stent removal, the 6-month mortality rate was 0%. Conclusion: Endoscopic gastroduodenal pseudocyst drainage technique had high success rate and low complication rate. This was a viable and effective method.
