Abstract

Background: Many studies in the world and Vietnam show that the rate of increased serum uric acid (SUA) is increasing in the community, Thailand 24.4% [14], Taiwan 36% [11]. Factors that increase SUA such as drinking alcohol, dry food, animal viscera, OR = 2.15 [1.22– 3.76], [16] factors that decrease AUM as a group education, eat a lot of green vegetables OR = 0.5 [0.12-68][12]. Objectives: To define the rate of hyperuricemia on over 35-year-old people in Ca Mau province. To find out some related factors to increase of blood uric acid levels on studies people. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 2232 over 35-year-old people in Ca Mau province. Screening for blood uric acid by examination and intervierw realated factors by questionairs. Results: The rate of hyperuricemia on studies people was 14.83%, which of male was 20.13% and of female was 9.7%. Some factors have related to increase blood uric acid were having a habbits of drinking alcohol (42.07%/10.76%), eating unhealthy food like red meat (26.4%/12.49%), dried foods (26.09%/13.39%), offal (44.14%/12.79%) and seafood (19.84%/14.18%), with all p<0,001. In contrast, some related factors to decrease blood uric acid were eating a lot of green vegetables (7.59%/16.41%), often doing exercises (7.11%/17.86%), with all p<0.001. Conclusion: The rate of hyperuricemia on over 35 aged people was rather high in the community Ca Mau province. The factors related to increase blood uric acid were drinking alcohol, eating unhealthy food like red meat, dried foods, offal and seafood (p<0.001), and factors related to decrease blood uric acid were often doing exercises, eating a lot of green vegetables (p<0.001).
