PERCEIVED STRESS AND ASSOCIATED FACTORS AMONG UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS OF EASTERN INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (EIU)

Abstract
Background: Stress has been becoming a serious problem that people suffer and the increasing of this issue is becoming a huge challenge. Stress is especially common in most universities in the world. Objectives: (1) Assessing the stress situation of students at Eastern International University;(2) Identifying associated factors of stress among EIU students. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted on a total of 455 students from Eastern International University from December 2020 to January 2021 and PSS-10 scale was used to collect data. Results: 84.8% of students experienced stress: The majority of students was moderate stress levels at 81.3%, 3.5% of students suffered high stress levels and 18.5% of students had low stress levels. The prevalence of perceived stress was slightly higher (87.6%) among female students than among male students (80.3%) χ2=4.371; p=0.037 and the rate of perceived stress was higher (92.4%) among medical students than among non-medical students (83.2%) χ2= 4.258; p=0.039. Conclusions: The rate of stress level of EIU students is lower than students from other universities in the previous studies. There was a majority of students having moderate stress levels and a minority of them experienced high stress levels. In addition, there was no associated factor of stress among EIU students was found in the study.
