PRESCRIPTION PATTERN AND DRUG-RELATED PROBLEMS IN DIABETES AND HYPERTENSION OUTPATIENT’S PRESCRIPTION AT BAC LIEU GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract
Background: Drug-related problems (DRPs) can affect the safety and effectiveness of treatment for diabetes mellitus with hypertension patients. However, studies on DRPs in diabetes mellitus with hypertension patients are limited. Objectives: To determine the prescription pattern of treatment for diabetes mellitus with hypertension patients and the proportion of each type of DRPs in the outpatient prescriptions of these patients. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study on 413 outpatient prescriptions (from May 1 to December 31, 2020) was conducted at Internal Medicine Rooms of Medical Examination Department, Bac Lieu General Hospital. The DRPs prescription was identified based on the following documents. Results: 413 outpatient prescriptions were conducted, treatment of diabetes mellitus and hypertension with the most commonly used twodrug combination regimen (63.7% and 42.9% respectively). For DRPs, the study results showed that 32.7% of singles had at least 1 DRP. DRPs accounted for the highest proportion concerning dose (23.2%), important drug interactions (19.6%), followed by the timing of drug administration (18.6%), and finally choose drugs (2.9%). Conclusion: The prescription pattern was varied. The proportion of DRPs was quite high. Clinical significance should be assessed and make appropriate intervention measures.
