KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES OF STUDENTS AT THAI BINH UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY ON HUMAN TISSUE, ORGAN DONATION AND TRANSPLANTATION

Abstract

Background: Human tissue, organ donor is an individual who voluntarily donates his/her tissues or organs while alive or dead. Extraction of human tissues and organs is the separation of tissues and organs from the donor's body while alive or after death. Tissue and human organ transplant are the transplanting of the corresponding tissues and organs of the donor's body into the body of the transplant recipient. In Vietnam, knowledge about donation, tissue transplantation, human organs are still limited. Objectives: Assess knowledge and attitudes of students at Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy on organ donation and transplantation. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 618 students in Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Results: The average age of study subjects is 21.99 ± 1.56 years, most of the Kinh group (83.8%); The proportion of students with good, average and limited knowledge about organ transplantation was 2.6%, good level was 79.8% and average was 17.6%. The difference in knowledge between years was statistically significant (p < 0.05). 54.4% of students surveyed are willing to participate in organ donation when needed, while only 5.6% are not willing to participate. Conclusion: Students of Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmarcy have quite good knowledge about organs donation and transplants, few are not ready to donate organs when needed.
