CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND TREATMENT OF COVID-19 IN PREGNANCY AT CAN THO GYNECOLOGY OBSTETRICS HOSPITAL

Abstract

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic that broke out globally and in Vietnam has left many serious consequences. However, studies in pregnant women with COVID-19 are still limited. Objectives: (1) To describe the clinical, subclinical and disease characteristics of pregnant women undergoing COVID-19 treatment at Can Tho Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in 2021 - 2022; (2) To evaluate the results of treatment of pregnant women with COVID-19 at Can Tho Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study conducted on 427 cases of pregnant women ≥ 7 weeks with COVID-19 at Can Tho Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from July 2021 to February 2022. Results: The average gestational age of the study subjects was 35.4 ± 6.3 weeks. The group of pregnant women with 1-2 children accounted for 57.4%. The group of pregnant women who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 accounted for 41.2%. There was 65.6% pregnant women with labor signs. The Realtime RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 index was 22.3 ± 6.5. The percentage of pregnant women with mild COVID-19 accounted for 93%. The incidence of severe COVID-19 was lower in the vaccinated group than in the unvaccinated group (0.2% and 2.1%, p<0.001). In the group of pregnant women who received ≥2 doses of vaccine, no serious cases were recorded. The rate of pregnant women with stable treatment results and discharged from hospital accounted for 96.7%. The infant rate with COVID-19 was 1.7%. Conclusion: Immunization with COVID-19 vaccine for pregnant women is the most effective way to prevent severe progression.
