EVALUATING THE RESULT OF PERCUTANEOUS DILATIONAL TRACHEOSTOMY AT XUYEN A VINH LONG GENERAL HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: The percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy offers advantages such as a small incision, low rates of bleeding and surgical site infection, minimized tracheal cartilage damage, and a low incidence of subsequent tracheal stenosis. Objectives: To evaluate the outcomes of percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy at Xuyen A Vinh Long General Hospital. Materials and methods: A prospective interventional study was conducted on 32 mechanically ventilated patients indicated for percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy at Xuyen A Vinh Long General Hospital in 2025 - 2026. Result: Preoperative and postoperative SpO2 levels remained almost unchanged. The mean operative time was 8.9 ± 3.6 minutes. No intraoperative complications occurred. The rate of early postoperative complications was 6.25%, and there were no late complications. Surgical outcomes were classified as good in 93.75% of cases and fair in 6.25%. Conclusion: Percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy has shown good results and serves as a safe and effective alternative to conventional open tracheostomy, particularly for mechanically ventilated patients in the ICU.
