Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: While emotional alterations according to Traditional Medicine significantly influence the health and resilience of the elderly, specific studies evaluating these factors in Vietnam remain limited. Objectives: To describe the general characteristics and the emotional characteristics according to Traditional Medicine in the elderly. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 180 elderly patients treated at Hue City Traditional Medicine Hospital from October 2025 to January 2026, using the Multidimensional Emotion Questionnaire (MEQ). Results: The prevalence of the elderly with two comorbid chronic diseases or above was 25.0%. The emotion of joy was observed with a frequency of once per day, accounting for 45.6%; moderate intensity 69.4%; a duration of 11-60 minutes accounted for 67.2%; and a moderate level of regulatory ability accounted for 63.3%. Other emotions predominantly occurred with low frequency and intensity, for a short duration, and were easily regulated. The score of angry was higher in the 60-69 age group; the score of joy was higher in group with private income; sorrow score was higher in group of physical inactivity (p<0.05); the scores of fear were higher in female group (p<0.05), and with 2 or more chronic diseases (p<0.001). Conclusions: There were significant differences in angry, joy, fear, and sorrow scores among age groups, gender, income, physical activity, and comorbid chronic diseases.
