Abstract

Background: Patient safety and safety culture within healthcare facilities have increasingly received attention as critical components for preventing adverse events and minimizing risks that may harm patients during treatment and care. Patient safety culture is also considered one of the primary indicators for evaluating the quality of healthcare institutions. Objectives: To evaluate the patient safety culture among healthcare workers at Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital in 2025 and to identify some associated factors. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 596 healthcare workers who had been employed for at least six months at Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital in 2025. Data were collected using the Surveys on Patient Safety Culture (SOPS) hospital survey version 2.0, which consists of 40 self-reported items assessing multiple dimensions of patient safety culture. Results: The overall average positive response rate across all dimensions of patient safety culture was 83.7%. Overall, 95.9% of healthcare workers evaluated the hospital’s patient safety culture as good or above. The domains of teamwork and hospital leadership support for patient safety demonstrated the highest positive response rates. In contrast, staffing and work pace, as well as the frequency of event/error reporting, received the highest proportions of negative responses. Length of service at the hospital, overall work experience, and weekly working hours were significantly associated with patient safety culture. Conclusions: Although the patient safety culture among healthcare workers was generally rated as good, several domains require further improvement. Strengthening policies and procedures related to error and incident reporting, ensuring adequate professional staffing, and enhancing training on patient safety culture for all healthcare workers are recommended to further improve patient safety in the hospital.
