Abstract

Background: Surgery remains the primary therapeutic modality for stage I-IIIB penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC). Procedures include circumcision, partial or total penectomy, combined with inguinal lymph node dissection when indicated. Early surgical intervention significantly improves survival prognosis and reduces the risk of disease recurrence. Objectives: To describe the clinical characteristics and evaluate the surgical treatment outcomes of patients with stage I-IIIB penile squamous cell carcinoma at Can Tho Oncology Hospital. Materials and method: A case series was conducted on 27 patients diagnosed with stage I-IIIB penile squamous cell carcinoma who underwent surgical treatment at Can Tho Oncology Hospital from May 2024 to February 2026. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.0.  Results: The mean age of the patients was 55.9 ± 9.9 years. The most common clinical symptom was malodorous discharge from the penile tumor, presenting in 92.6% of cases. The glans penis was the most frequent site of the primary lesion (63%). Exophytic (fungating/cauliflower-like) lesions were the most common morphological type. The mean operative time was 100 ± 25 minutes, and the average postoperative hospital stay was 8 days. No intraoperative complications were recorded. Postoperative seroma was the most frequent complication, occurring in 14.8% of the patients. Conclusion: Surgical management of stage I-IIIB penile squamous cell carcinoma demonstrates high safety with a short hospital stay and a low rate of complications.
