Abstract

Background: Mechanical ventilation is an essential emergency intervention. Upon resolving respiratory failure causes, assessing optimal weaning timing is crucial yet challenging. Prognostic indices like P0.1 facilitate more objective decision-making. Objectives: To determine the value of P0.1 and other indices in predicting successful ventilator weaning in COPD exacerbation patients. Materials and methods:  A cross-sectional descriptive study of 31 mechanically ventilated COPD exacerbation patients at Can Tho Central General Hospital from June 2025 to February 2026. Results: 100% male, COPD Group E, mean age 72 ± 8.05. At a P0.1 cut-off of -3.625 cmH2O, sensitivity and specificity were 100% and 53.8%, respectively; the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.803 (95% CI: 0.610-0.996). Conclusion: The P0.1 index has good prognostic value for successful ventilator weaning in COPD exacerbation patients.
