Abstract

Background: Percutaneous coronary intervention is a minimally invasive technique that has rapidly progressed in recent years. However, post-PCI arrhythmias may cause serious complications, including death. Objective: To assess arrhythmias and heart rate variability using 24-hour Holter ECG in patients undergoing PCI at Can Tho Cardiovascular Hospital (2023–2025). Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 67 patients with chronic coronary syndrome who received coronary stenting at Can Tho Cardiovascular Hospital from April 2023 to March 2025. Results: Mean age was 66.6 ± 8.6 years; 53.7% were male. BMI ≥ 25 was observed in 40.3% of patients. At 4 weeks post-PCI, 78% experienced arrhythmias, mainly premature ventricular contractions (59.7%) and premature atrial contractions (35.8%). Atrial fibrillation and sinus bradycardia were rare (1.5% and 3%), and no ventricular tachycardia was recorded. Age >60 was significantly associated with increased risk of ventricular ectopy (p=0.042). HRV improved significantly post-PCI: SDANN increased from 73.73 ± 29.53 to 86.01 ± 39.97 (p=0.042), and pNN50 rose from 3.43 ± 2.94 to 5.20 ± 4.44 (p=0.007). Conclusions: Premature ventricular and atrial contractions were common at 4 weeks post-PCI. There was a significant association between age and ventricular ectopy. HRV parameters SDANN and pNN50 increased significantly after PCI (p < 0.05).
