RESEARCH OF THE TREATMENT AND MANAGEMENT OUTCOMES OF GESTATIONAL DIABETES MELLITUS IN PREGNANT WOMEN AT LONG KHANH REGIONAL GENERAL HOSPITAL, DONG NAI PROVINCE IN 2022-2023

Abstract

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic disorder in pregnancy and has an increasing trend worldwide. Objectives: To evaluate the results of gestational diabetes mellitus treatment management in pregnant women visiting Long Khanh Regional General Hospital, Dong Nai province, in 2022-2023. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 86 pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus were directly counseled on diet, exercise regimen, and re-examination, blood sugar monitoring, and obstetric results. Results: 86 pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus participated, with an average age of 30.3 ± 5.6 years. The compliance rate with diet before and after the intervention increased from 34.9% to 91.9% (p<0.001, effectiveness index 163.3%). The compliance rate with exercise regimen increased from 47.6% to 87.25 (p<0.001, effectiveness index 82.9%). The rate of compliance with reexamination was 83.7%. Overall, the rate of pregnant women complying with treatment was 74.4%. Blood sugar monitoring showed that 86.1% of pregnant women had stable blood sugar until birth; 82.6% had normal obstetric results. The rate of pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus who are managed and treated to meet the target was 66.3%. Conclusions: It is necessary to screen for gestational diabetes mellitus in pregnant women from 24 to 28 weeks of gestation and have a schedule for monitoring, counseling and controlling blood sugar for each specific case of gestational diabetes mellitus.
