Abstract

Background: Colon cancer is a malignant disease with a high incidence rate in Vietnam

and the world. Computed tomography can detect and provide many imaging features of colon cancer, combined with colonoscopy to help diagnose early and more accurately, suggest treatment directions and monitor patients. Objectives: To describe the imaging characteristics of colon cancer on computed tomography and the relationship with colonoscopy. Materials and methods: From July 2022 to March 2024, a prospective cross-sectional was conducted on 66 patients who hospitalized by colon cancer symptoms and preoperatively examined abdominal computed tomography and colonoscopy at Can Tho Central General Hospital. Results: A total of 66 patients (30 males and 36 females), with the most age from 50-80 years were included in the study. 100% of tumors detected on computed tomography were at stage T>2. 30.3% of patients had complications, including 21.2% intestinal obstruction, 7.6% intussusception, and 1.5% tumor abscess. The compatibility of computed tomography and colonoscopy in diagnosing tumor location was 80.3%, in diagnosing the type of lesion was 83.3%, the average tumor size on computed tomography and colonoscopy was 56.5±22.0 mm and 47.5±16.3 mm, respectively, a statistically significant difference (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Computed tomography and colonoscopy have similarities in imaging in colon cancer assessment. Computed tomography is more valuable in assessing tumor invasion and metastasis in the abdominal cavity.
