CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS, CRP AND VALUE OF NLR IN CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE EXACERBATIONS AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY HOSPITAL IN 2023 - 2024

Abstract
Background: Neutrophile to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exacerbations (AECOPD) is new and lacks medical researches in Vietnam and worldwide. Objective: To describe clinical characteristics of AECOPD CRP, NLR value. Materials and methods: Prospective descriptive study of 75 AECOPD patients treated in the General Medicine Department of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from May 2023 to May 2024. Main research variables were clinical characteristics variables, CRP (mg/L) and NLR (%). Results: Mean age was 71.9 ± 9.4 years, male patients took up 96.0% of the research population. Breathlessness took up 92.0% of the patients’ symptoms respectively. Median CRP was 25.2 mg/L. Postive culture prognosis of NLR was average, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.64. NLR’s prognostic ability of exacerbations in 3 months was good, with an AUC of 0.78. Conclusions: NLR can help predicting positive culture results and excerbations in the next 3 months.
