Abstract

Background: Vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (VABB) was developed in 1995 and is a valuable technique in the diagnosis and treatment of breast lesions. However, there have not been many studies on the effectiveness of ultrasound - guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy in Viet Nam. Objectives: To evaluate the success rate and complication rate of the vacuum-assisted breast biopsy technique under ultrasound guidance. Materials and methods: A case series study was conducted involving 75 cases with 122 BIRADS 3, 4, 5 breast lesions, all of which underwent vacuum-assisted breast biopsy under ultrasound guidance at Can Tho Oncology Hospital. Results: The vacuum-assisted breast biopsy technique achieved a 100% success rate. There were no severe complications, the most common complications included skin ecchymosis 31 (41.3%), hematoma 5 (6.7%), and seroma 4 (5.3%). Most pathology results were benign with 81 (71.3%) lesions being fibroadenoma and 7 (5.7%) malignant lesions. Conclusion: Vacuum-assisted breast biopsy under ultrasound guidance is an effective and safe technique in the diagnosis and treatment of breast lesions BIRADS 3, 4, 5.
