OUTCOME OF DEGA OSTEOTOMY IN THE TREATMENT OF DEVELOPMENTAL DYSPLASIA OF THE HIPS IN CHILDREN

Abstract

Background: The management of Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) is still complicated. In Vietnam, most patients are diagnosed lately when they reach walking age. Thus, the treatment often include open reduction combine with pelvic osteotomy. One of the most commonly used osteotomies in the management of DDH is Dega osteotomy. Objectives: To evaluate the outcome of Dega osteotomy in the management of DDH in children. Materials and method: Prospectively study on 34 patients (36 hips) with DDH managed with Dega osteotomy from 5/2021 to 5/2023 at Hospital for Traumatology and Orthopaedics. Results: A total of 34 patients with 36 dislocated hips with the mean follow-up period was 13.8 months. According to the McKay classification 92% were Good/Excellent. According to Severin citeria were 94% were type I or II. Conclusion: Dega osteotomy can be a safe, low complication rates procedure for the treatment of DDH in children.
