Abstract

Background: Medial meniscal posterior root tears (MMPRTs) are defined as radial tears within 1 cm of the meniscal root insertion. These injuries change joint loading due to failure of the meniscus to convert axial loads into hoop stresses, resulting in joint overloading and degenerative changes in the knee. Improved knee function has been reported after meniscal root repair, and meniscal repair can prevent knee osteoarthritis in many studies in the world. However, no studies of medial meniscal posterior root repair is conducted in Viet Nam. Objectives: To evaluate the clinical characteristics and the result of medial meniscal posterior root repair by the technique using a transtibial tunnel via knee arthroscopy. Materials and methods: All patients who were indicated to MMPRTs repair at Hospital for Traumatology and Orthopaedics. The design is a crosssectional study. Results: From July 2022 to July 2023, there were 15 patients enrolled in the study. 14/15 patients got the good functional outcome. Conclusion: Mensical root  repair is a safe and reliable method to treat the MMPRTs.
