THE PREVALENCE OF HYPERTENSION AND RELATED FACTORS IN CHAM ETHNIC GROUP IN PHUOC HAI COMMUNE, NINH PHUOC DISTRICT, NINH THUAN PROVINCE

Abstract
Background: Hypertension has become a global concern, because it has a high incidence rate in the community and is on the rise. However, not many studies have been conducted on Cham ethnic people, so this study aims to help the locality change the rate of hypertension and contribute to the effective prevention of hypertension. Objectives: The prevalence of hypertension and its factor relationships among the Cham ethnic group in Phuoc Hai commune, Ninh Phuoc district, Ninh Thuan province in 2019. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 300 Cham ethnic people aged 18 and over in Phuoc Hai commune, Ninh Phuoc district, Ninh Thuan province. Select the sample using a systematic method of 1:5 ratio and interview using a set of questions based on WHO's Vietnamese STEPS tool. Results: The rate of hypertension in Cham ethnic people was 23.7%, however only 66.2% are using medication for treatment. The multivariate analysis noted several factors associated with hypertension including age group and BMI, specifically the 45 to 59 age group has a 1.93 times higher prevalence of hypertension than the 18 to 29 age group. Conclusion: Hypertension tends to increase among Cham people.
