Abstract

Background: Burnout is a health problem of modern life and is becoming increasingly common. The rate of burnout among healthcare workers is estimated at 67.0% (ranging from 0% to 80.5%). Objectives: To determine the rate and factors related to burnout among pharmacists in the districts of Can Tho city. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 193 pharmacists in pharmacy stores in Can Tho districts. Results: The burnout rate among pharmacists was recorded at 37.8%, with the following breakdown: 7.8% (12.24 ± 0.56) for emotional exhaustion (EE); 4.1% (2.81 ± 0.25) for depersonalization (DP); 34.7% (35.33 ± 0.51) for personal accomplishment (PA). Several factors were associated with burnout, including working time, intention to quit the current job, secure income, income satisfaction, feeling of being under pressure, and current smoking status (p<0.05). Conclusion: The research showed that burnout accounts for a high proportion among pharmacists. Therefore, measures to prevent burnout in this profession are recommended.
