Abstract

Background: Recurrent ischemic stroke after stroke leads to higher mortality, more significant disability, and increased treatment cost compared with the first and treatment needs to combine many factor. Objectives: To assess the treatment outcomes of recurrent ischemic stroke patients at Can Tho Central General Hospital from 2022 to 2023. Materials and method: A descriptive cross-sectional study. The study included 87 recurrent ischemic stroke patients who met the selection criteria. Results: Among the 87 recurrent ischemic stroke patients, 98.8% of patients received conservative management, while 1.1% were treated with fibrinolytic drugs. Among the recurrent ischemic stroke patients, 88.5% had favorable outcomes. The management results were found to be associated with lipid disorders, prior use of antiplatelet drugs, the number of noncontiguous infarct locations, aphasia, and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale at the time of hospital admission (p<0.05). Conclusion: It is necessary to evaluate the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale and related factors to improve the quality of treatment for recurrent ischemic stroke.
