ASSESSMENT OF KNOWLEDGE AND RELATED FACTORS OF CONSUMERS ABOUT FUNCTIONAL FOOD IN CAN THO CITY IN 2022-2023

Abstract
Background: Functional foods are a huge profit source in the food industry. Their rich benefits of them are increasingly expected and developed. However, the knowledge and awareness of consumers about dietary supplements are still limited. The situation of using functional foods has not been overcome when there is still a lack of understanding or some people are still afraid of using dietary supplements to support health care. Objective: To evaluate consumers' knowledge about functional foods in Can Tho city in 2022-2023. Materials and method: Our research apply a cross-sectional descriptive method with the sample size of 415 consumers through direct interviews. Results: The survey revealed that women used at a high rate (54%), while men used at a far lower rate (44.8%). Only 8.7% of respondents did not know about functional foods, compared to 91.3% who did. The proportion of survey participants with good, average, and poor knowledge scores was 64.3% (267/415), 27.7% (115/415), and 8.0% (33/415), respectively. Conclusions: Women, occupations related to health care, and urban people are the most knowledgeable consumer groups about functional foods.
