Abstract

Background: The endoscopic surgery of septoplasty is surgery to treat symptoms caused by nasal septal deformity. Septal suturing after septoplasty replaces hemostatic materials nasal packing help reduce the discomfort cause to the patients after surgery. Objectives: To evaluate the results of the endoscopic surgery of septoplasty with septal suturing. Materials and methods: To descriptive prospective and clinical interventional study on 59 patients from 06/2022 to 05/2023 at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy hospital (53 patients) and Can Tho ENT Hospital (06 patients). Prospective study with clinical intervention. Results: After surgery, the average VAS pain score was 4.63±1.015. Average score of NOSE (Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation) before surgery 55.08±20.246, improvement after surgery at 1 week (16.19±10.841), 1 month (8.27±9.868) and 3 months (5.93±7.850). Other symptoms such as headache, sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose, eye symptoms, and nosebleeds also improved 1 week, 1 month and 3 months after surgery. Complications encountered during surgery is laceration of the septal mucosa on both sides with 4 cases accounting for 6.8%. During follow-up 1 week and 1 month after surgery, there was 1 case nasal adhesions accounting for 1.7%. After 3 months of surgery, the result shows: good-group are 54 cases (91.5%), average-group are 5 cases (8.5%), there is no case in the bad group. Conclusion: Septal suturing after septoplasty has a high success rate and causes few complications, so it can be an alternative to the method merocel nasal packing.
