THE RESULTS OF ENDOSCOPIC CARPAL TUNNEL RELEASE SURGERY AT CANTHO CENTRAL GENERAL HOSPITAL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a compressive neuropathy of the median nerve at the wrist. It is one of the most common illnesses of the peripheral compressive neuropathies.
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome performed by the endoscopic carpal tunnel release (ECTR) technique. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study on 62 hands with CTS were performed by the ECTR technique. This study was conducted in Can Tho Central General Hospital between 1st, March 2019 and 31st, December 2019. Results: During the first week after surgery, the patients treated with the endoscopic carpal tunnel release had better SSS (Symptom Severity Scale) and FSS (Functional Status Scale) than the fourth week. The incision length in the group was 1,2 ± 0,1cm, the time to return to work was 10,9±2,1 days. No complications with respect to nerve, tendon, or artery injuries were noted in the group. There were two patients requiring repeated carpal tunnel release by open surgical technique. Conclusions: Endoscopic carpal tunnel release can give patients a faster recovery compared with traditional open release.
