RATE OF HYPERURICEMIA AND SOME RELATED FACTORS IN END- STAGE RENAL DISEASE PATIENTS UNDERGOING HEMODIALYSIS AT CAU MAU GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

Background: Studying of the prevalence of hyperuricemia, identifying some related factors can propose interventions to reduce blood uric acid, reduce risk of complications, improve the quality of life for chronic kidney díease (CKD) patients. Objectives: To evaluate the rate, level of the hyperuricemia, concentration of serum uric acid and to find out some risk factors related to hyperuricemia in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients on hemodialysis. Materials and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 211 ESRD patients on hemodialysis at Ca Mau General General Hospital from July 2022 to April 2023. Results: 105 male and 106 female patients participated in the study, the mean age was 49.54±12.82. There were 88.2% of patients with hyperuricemia. The average serum uric acid concentration was 8.36±1.87mg/dl. Female patients had a higher rate of hyperuricemia than men, p<0.001. Uric acid levels in the overweight/obese BMI group and the normal BMI group were higher than in the lean group. There were 96.1% of patients who regularly ate purine-rich foods had hyperuricemia, the average uric acid concentration was 8.7±1.6mg/dl, much higher than the group eating infrequently, p<0.001. Patients with hypertension had a higher rate of hyperuricemia than the non-hypertensive group, p<0.001. The results of multivariate analysis showed that female gender, eating habits of high purine-rich foods and hypertension were independently associated with hyperuricemia. Conclusions: ESRD patients had high concentration of serum uric acid and were related to many factors such as gender, eating habits, and hypertension.
