THE DIMENSION OF PROFUNDAL FEMORIS ARTERY IN VIETNAMESE

Abstract

Background: ProfundaL femoris artery (PFA) is the largest branch of the femoral artery. The dimension of profunda femoris artery has practical implications, helping the doctor to successfully perform the procedure and complications for patients. Objectives: To determine the dimension of the profunda femoris artery and the branch of them. Materials and methods: a study of case series with 44 cases of profundaL femoris artery within 22 embalmed cadavers not anatomized at Anatomy department, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, at Ho Chi Minh city from August 2018 to July 2019. Profundal femoris artery consists of lateral femoral circumflex artery (LFCA), medial femoral circumflex artery (MFCA), and perforating arteries (PA) and describing their dimension. Using SPSS 16.0 software is analyzed data. Results: The average diameter of profunda femoris artery was 4.9 ± 1.2 mm. The dimension of the branches of the deep femoral artery: Average diameter of lateral and medial femoral circumflex arteries were 3.16±0.91mm and 3.62±1.17mm respectively. The average diameter of perforating arteries was 1.51±0.89mm, 1.92±1.95mm, 1.79±0.90mm, and 1.74±0.97mm, respectively. The study did not record differences in mean diameter between the left thigh, right thigh and male and female gender. Conclusions: The dimension and branches of profunda femoris artery were varied. The majority of the femoral artery had four transverse arteries, but more available for the fifth radial artery. There was no difference in the profundal femoris artery diameter between the thighs and sex.
