Abstract

Background: Internal nasal valve area is the narrowest region of the nasal cavity with the biggest resistance. The abnormal structures in this area include lateral nasal wall collapse, hypertrophy of inferior turbinate and nasal septal deviation. The relating studies to this problem has not been mentioned in Vietnam, therefore we do the research about endoscopic surgery for treatment the patients suffering with the abnormal structures in internal nasal valve region causing chronic obstruction at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital and Cantho Ear – Nose – Throat  Hospital  from 2019 to 2020. Objectives: To describe the clinical, subclinical features and evaluate results of endoscopic surgical treatment on patients suffering with internal nasal vavle obstruction in Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital and Can Tho Ear – Nose – Throat Hospital from 2019 to 2020. Materials and methods: To descriptive prospective and clinical interventional study on 47 patients suffering with chronic nasal obstruction caused by internal nasal valve compromise from 1/2019 to 6/2020. Results: During the time of posoperative follow up in 12 weeks after surgery, there were 97.9% of patients who were very good results (free of nasal obstruction), and 2.1% of patients were good results; Average Nasal Obstruction Symptoms Evaluation (NOSE) score decreases from 47.77 to 3.30. Conclusion: Most causes of internal nasal valve obstruction were from nasal septum deviation and inferior turbinate hypertrophy. Endoscopy surgery offered good result in solving the abnormal structures causing the chronic nasal obstruction at internal nasal valve area.
