KNOWLEDGE – PRACTICE SLEEP HYGIENE IN TRADITIONAL MEDICINE STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY AT HO CHI MINH CITY IN 2024

Abstract

Background: Nowadays, sleep disorders are increasingly common, and bad sleep quality affects people. Sleep protection is one of the highly effective methods for improving sleep quality in many ways. The study aimed to investigate the research formula - implementing actions to protect sleep for students majoring in Traditional Medicine. Objectives: 1. To determine the percentage of Traditional medicine students with good sleep hygiene knowledge hygiene according to the SHAPS scale. 2. To determine the percentage of Traditional Medicine students who practice good sleep hygiene according to the SHI scale. 3. To determine the relationships with sleep hygiene among Traditional Medicine students. Material and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive was conducted on 517 Traditional Medicine students at University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City which was selected according to cluster and systematic sampling methods. Determining the percentage of good knowledge and practice of good sleep hygiene of Traditional Medicine students and relationships with sleep hygiene. Results: Of the total 517 students participating in the survey, regarding the characteristics of sleep hygiene knowledge, 12/13 questions had a correct answer with rate of over 50%, there were 258 students with good knowledge of sleep hygiene, accounting for 49.9%. Regarding the characteristics of practicing sleep hygiene, there were 133 students who practice good sleep hygiene, accounting for 25.7%. The association with sleep hygiene practices was gender with p-value = 0.020 and sleep quality with p-value < 0.001. Conclusions: Of the total 517 students surveyed, there were 258 students with good knowledge of sleep hygiene, accounting for 49.9%, and 133 students who practice good sleep hygiene, accounting for 25.7%. Correlates of student sleep hygiene include gender and sleep quality.
