STUDY ON USING DRUGS IN DIALYSIS PATIENTS AT DONG THAP MILITARY PEOPLE HOSPITAL IN 2019 - 2021
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Drugs used in the treatment of hemodialysis patients may increase toxicity because of decreased elimination when renal function is reduced, significantly decrease the effectiveness because of hemodialysis, or cause adverse reactions because of drugs interactions, accumulation of metabolites. Objectives: To survey characteristics of patients undergoing hemodialysis at the hospital; To determine the rate of drugs used on hemodialysis patients at the hospital. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 210 medical records of hemodialysis patients at Dong Thap Military People Hospital from June 2019 to June 2021. Results: The researched sample consisted of 210 patients. The proportion of hemodialysis men was 1.9 times higher than that of women; 97.62% of patients have anemia, 87,62% patients with hypertension, 74.81% of patients on hemodialysis 3 times/week or more. The rate of patients having to use more than 5 drugs was high (41.74%). 88.10% of patients had to use cardiovascular blood pressure drugs, 76.29% of patients had a combination of 2 to 4 blood pressure - cardiovascular drugs, but 109/210 cases still had blood pressure higher than 140/90 mmHg. Conclusions: The risk of drug interactions or drug side effects is very high because patients on hemodialysis have many comorbidities and use many drugs. Many patients cannot control their blood pressure with medication.
