ANXIETY LEVEL TO COLORECTAL CANCER PATIENTS BEFORE SURGERY AND SOME RELATED FACTORS

Abstract
Background: Anxiety directly affects the success of the surgery and the patient's recovery after surgery. Objective: To identify some related factors to the anxiety of patients before colorectal cancer surgery. Materials and method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 49 patients before the laparoscopic surgery of colorectal cancer at the Hospital of Medicine and Pharmacy in Can Tho. The anxiety level was determined by using Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale - Anxiety (HADS-A). Then we evaluated the relationship between anxiety and personality traits demographic, disease characteristics, family and social support. Result: The average age was 59.27 ± 11.05, mal/ female 1,04 (25/24). The mean level of preoperative anxiety before colorectal surgery is 12.27 ± 5.2. There was a statistically significant (p <0.05) relationship between anxiety and different groups of patients with characteristics such as age, occupation, and marital status, a caregiver at the hospital, including diseases. Conclusion: Anxiety is still a prominent health problem in colorectal cancer before surgery.
