THE SURVEY ON THE PREVALENE OF RECURRENT TUBERCULOSIS IN CAN THO CITY IN 2011-2016

Abstract

Background: Recurrent tuberculosis is recognized as a serious problem for public health. Objectives: To determine the rate and characteristics of recurrent tuberculosis in patients with new tuberculosis in Can Tho City. Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted on 1591 new tuberculosis patients (AFB + and AFB-) who recovered from TB treatment in 2011-2013 and continued to follow up from January 2014 to December 2016 in Can Tho city. Methods of data collection were clinical examination, X-rays, sputum tests and interviews. Data were analyzed with SPSS 26.0 software. Results: The rate of recurrent tuberculosis actively detected within 3 years (2014-2016) of new TB patients after completing treatment was 3%; of which, the average age in patients with recurrent tuberculosis was 43.2 ± 14.1. The male/female ratio was 8.6 / 1. Patients with recurrent tuberculosis mainly in farmers/employees, poor households, accompanied by HIV/AIDS, diabetes or cirrhosis / hepatitis range from 4-8%. Conclusion: The rate of recurrent tuberculosis was accounted for 3%. Active monitoring of TB after treatment is important in early detection of recurrent TB cases.
