Abstract

Diabetic ketoacidosis is a life-threatening acute complication in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Careful and prompt management is required to optimize glycaemic control and mitigate the risk of mortality and lethal complications. Among them, cerebral edema is the leading cause of death in children with diabetic ketoacidosis and has a mortality rate of approximately 25%. This article aims to compare recently updated guidelines on fluid therapy for diabetic ketoacidosis, thereby assisting paediatricians in simply applying them to real-life clinical situations.
