Abstract

Background: The most common surgical emergencies. If the patient is emergency and promptly treated, it will reduce the risk of death and sequelae from trauma. First aid and safe transportation are essential to ensure the survivability of the patients. Objectives: Determining the rate of traumatic brain injury patients receiving first aid in the community, with properly transported to An Giang Central General Hospital. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional description, sampling according to convenient method, patients were taken to the emergency department of An Giang Central General Hospital after an injury to the head area, assessing the results after first aid and transported to the hospital from September 2020 to December 2020. Results: Patients with traumatic brain injury had an average age of 40±11.2; the males accounts for 72.6%; most of whom were in traffic accidents (87%); only 21% of patients received first aid at the scene and 30.6% of patients received first aid at medical facilities. Initial first aid done by civilians near the site of the accident accounted for 68.2%. Most were transported by ambulance, which accounted for 72.6%. Conclusions: First aid of traumatic brain injury still has many shortcomings. It is necessary to improve skills of first aid before hospital for people in the community in the prevention of accidents and injuries.
