Abstract

Background: The effect of Botulinum Toxin injections as a convervative treatment for gummy smile, has high patient satisfaction, reduce treatment time and the fee of treatment. Objectives: Evaluating the gummy smile treatment by Botulinum Toxin at Can Tho University Hospital Medicine and Pharmacy. Materials and methods: Case series report was carried out in 16 patients with gummy smile from September 2020 to November 2020. BT injection at Yonsei point 2.5 IU per side. Photos were taken of the patient’s smile before and after the treatment, 24 hours, 3 days, 5 days, 1 week and 2 weeks. Results: Before the treatment GD =5.98mm (SD±1.85), after 3 days reduced 0.26 mm (SD±0.28), 5 days 0.61mm (SD±0.38), 1 week 0.86mm (SD±0.45), 2 weeks 1.41 mm (SD±0.45mm), after 2 weeks GD =2.84mm. At the fifth day to 1 week, BT is strongest, GD reduced 0.43mm per day. Conclusions: In gummy smile correction, 2 IU per side Botulinum Toxin injection is a possible method because it has effective recovery and high patient satisfaction.
