KNOWLEDGE ABOUT PREVENTIVE MEASURES AND PRACTICES MANAGEMENT RELATED TO ANAPHYLAXIS AMONG NURSING STUDENTS AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY

Abstract

Background: Anaphylaxis has a high actual risk of death which is a common situation in medical facilities where nursing students practice. Therebefore, knowledge of students about preventive measures and practices management is so important, which helps to ensure safety and improve the quality of care for patients. Objectives: To assess the extent of knowledge about preventive measures and practices management related to anaphylaxis among nursing students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 140 bachelor nursing students, which included junior and senior, using a selffilled questionnaire administered at interviews about knowledge about preventive measures and practices management related to anaphylaxis. Results: 63.6% of students' knowledge about anaphylaxis was good. Students knew preventive measures of anaphylaxis, which was the best (75.7%). Included: 97.9% of students knew correctly anaphylaxis prevent steps to need working to prevent anaphylaxis and use of medicine for patients; just 57.9% of students knew how allergy testing was performed and 54.3% manage milder anaphylaxis. As for treatment, 47.9% of students had good knowledge, specially posture, monitoring, and setting up transmission lines for patients. However, the correct dose of adrenaline for the childdren and dose of adrenalin against were low (44.3-53.6%). Conclusion: Knowledge about preventive measures of nursing students was better practices management of anaphylaxis.
