Abstract

 Background: Annona muricata (soursop or graviola) of Annonaceae is a great kind of potential plant in prevention and support of treating problems related to types of cancers, cardiovascular diseases, digestive problems, immunity booster, blood circulation enhancement and weight loss. The fruit of this plant, however, is called with a Vietnamese name similar to other kinds of fruits in some regions. In fact, only graviola has the ability to prevent and cure diseases. So far, there have been few studies in Annona muricata. Objectives: Describing morphological and microscopic characteristics of graviola. Materials and methods: Leaves, seeds and stems of graviola were collected in Can Tho city; Researching on botanical characteristics by comparative morphological and anatomical methods. Results: Identifying botanical characteristics of graviola based on testing and comparing to previous documents of morphological features; Determining and analyzing anatomical features of different parts of graviola, which was not available in previous researches. Conclusion: The results of botanical characteristics provide a detailed, clear and thorough description of external characteristics and internal structures of graviola for the list of Vietnamese plant species.
