Abstract

Background: Liver cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality around the world. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the primary cancer of the liver, accounting for the majority of liver cancers. Health-related quality of life (QoL) measurements are important for patient care. Objectives: To determine HCC patients' QoL and some factors of the association between HCC patients' QoL at An Giang Central General Hospital in 2020-2021. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study is carried on 116 HCC patients' QoL at An Giang Central General Hospital in 2020-2021 and an interview questionnaire was used for data collection. Results: The percentage of HCC patients with good QoL accounted for 25%; in which, the percentage of patients achieving good QoL of physical status, social well-being, emotional well-being, functional wellbeing, and other concerns are 17.2%, 77.6%, 26.7%, 91.4% and 85.3% respectively. Multivariate analysis shows that there are 2 factors related to QoL of patients with HCC like cirrhosis and taking pain medication with OR 3.09 [CI95%: 1.04-9.19] and 3.32 [CI95%: 1.07-10.26] respectively (p<0.05). Conclusion: The quality of life in patients with HCC is quite poor, especially in patients with cirrhosis and not taking pain relievers.
