Abstract

Background: Liver cancer is a major health problem in Viet Nam with the majority of patients being diagnosed at a late stage, leading to poor treatment outcomes and high mortality. Objectives: To determine characteristics and value of computer tomography of hepatocellular carcinoma. Materials and methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study, all patients with hepatic tumors were examined and/or treated at Can Tho Oncology Hospital from May 2021 to September 2023. Results: Patients over 60 years old accounted for the majority (64.7%), ratio of males to females was 2.1:1, common tumor size was >5 cm (85.3%), tumors usually appeared in the right liver (52.9%) and solitary tumors accounted for the most (73.5%). There are many types of tumor enhancement across phases, however, washout enhancement accounts for the highest rate (76.5%) and has high specificity (80%). The image of the intratumoral aneurysm, tumor capsule and portal vein thrombosis has a high specificity of 100%, 93.3% and 93.3%, respectively. Conclusions: Computed tomography images of hepatocellular carcinoma are various and highly valuable in the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma.
