SURVEYING THE SITUATION AND PROPOSING SOLUTIONS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF MEDICAL ETHICS OF MEDICAL STUDENTS AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY

Abstract
Background: Medical education and training is one of the especially important contents and is regularly mentioned in all activities of the health sector. For medical students, being good at medicine is not enough, but it is also necessary to be bright in medicine. Therefore, the formation of the habit of self-cultivation of self-morality must be carried out regularly and simultaneously with the improvement of qualifications has become an extremely urgent requirement. Objective: Assessing the current state of medical awareness of medical students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Materials and methods: Stratified randomized study of over 600 medical students from course 41 to course 46 at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in the academic year 2020 - 2021. Data were collected by survey form and statistically processed by SPSS 20.0. Results: The proportion of students with proper awareness of medical ethics reached a high rate: 75.6% had a correct understanding of the definition of medical virtue; 61.5% of students properly understood the sacred obligations of physicians; most students know and adhere to the basic interests of patients. However, the percentage of students who know little about the regulations and principles accounts for 55.7%. Conclusion: The results of the study show that the majority of students have a proper awareness of medical ethics and its role in themselves and their work. However, the issue of studying regulations related to medical ethics is of little interest to students. It is necessary to have timely solutions to overcome existing defects to further raise awareness of medical ethics for students.
