Abstract

Background: Online learning has been widely deployed during the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to be maintained because of its benefits. However, understanding the barriers to online learning in medical education, particularly nursing education, is still limited. Objectives: To describe the barriers to online learning among nursing students and to explore some associated factors. Material and method: A cross-sectional study design was conducted on 245 nursing students studying at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, academic year 2021-2022. Results: The online learning barrier mean score was 3.32 ± 0.68. The group of environmental barriers has the highest score, followed by the group of psychological and interactional barriers, and finally the economic barriers. There was a relationship between online learning barriers with age, marital status, training system, number of e-learning courses/semester and concentration frequency when participating in online learning. Conclusions: Nursing students had a moderate level of barriers to online learning. Nursing administrators and educators need to consider this issue as well as the associated factors for appropriate interventions.
