SURVEY ON KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE OF HAND HYGIENE AMONG THE THIRD – YEAR MEDICAL STUDENTS AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY

Abstract

  Background: Hand hygiene is a simple and easy action for the public and healthcare workers. This is one of the essential measures in preventing infection in general and especially in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. Objectives: To survey knowledge - attitude about routine hand hygiene of third-year general medical students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. Materials and methods: A self-administered questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was done among the medical students who agreed to attend the research. Based on their responses, a scoring system was devised, and their knowledge and attitude were graded as good when they reached ≥75% of the scale. Results: The average age of students is 21 years old, females accounted for 64.9%, and males accounted for 35.1%. The most accessible sources of information about hand hygiene are the Internet (63.3%) and schools (63.2%). The percentage of students with general knowledge of hand hygiene reached 40.1%. Students who have a positive attitude about hand hygiene were 57.9%. Most students are suggested to seek knowledge about hand hygiene (55.8%) actively. Conclusion:


Regarding the hand hygiene of medical students, the knowledge is relatively good and uniform in brightness, and the student's attitude is positive.
