CLINICAL AND RADIOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PATIENTS WITH REMAINING TEETH OR RETAINED ROOTS IN THE MAXILLARY ANTERIOR REGION INDICATED FOR EXTRACTION AND IMMEDIATE IMPLANT PLACEMENT WITH AUTOGENOUS CONNECTIVE TISSUE GRAFTING
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Immediate implant placement in the maxillary anterior region is a treatment option with high esthetic demand; however, outcomes are strongly influenced by alveolar bone conditions and peri-implant soft tissue characteristics. Preoperative assessment of clinical and radiographic features is essential for case selection and planning autogenous connective tissue grafting. Objective: To describe the clinical and radiographic characteristics of patients with remaining teeth or retained roots in the maxillary anterior region who were indicated for extraction and immediate implant placement with autogenous connective tissue grafting. Materials and methods: This analytical crosssectional descriptive study included 46 patients with remaining teeth or retained roots in the maxillary anterior region who were indicated for extraction and immediate implant placement combined with autogenous connective tissue grafting at Can Tho Eye – Odonto Stomatology Hospital. Results: The distribution of treated sites was relatively balanced between quadrant I and quadrant II, accounting for 52.2% and 47.8%, respectively. Bone density was mainly classified as D2–D3, accounting for 80.5% of cases. The most common reason for extraction was extensive carious destruction, accounting for 52.2%, followed by failed endodontic treatment at 26.1%. Keratinized gingival width ≥ 4 mm was observed in 63.0% of cases. The mean preoperative soft tissue thickness was 1.57 ± 0.48 mm. Conclusion: Patients indicated for immediate implant placement in the maxillary anterior region in this study predominantly had D2–D3 bone density. Extensive carious destruction was the most common reason for extraction, and most cases had a keratinized gingival width ≥ 4 mm.
