Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Corticoids are a group of drugs frequently associated with drug-related problems (DRPs), which affect the efficacy and safety of treatment in hospitalised patients. Therefore, investigating the prevalence of corticosteroid-related DRPs is necessary for treatment optimization. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of corticoid-related problems (DRPs-C) among inpatients at the Department of General Internal Medicine, Gia Rai Town Medical Center, Bac Lieu Province in 2025. Materials and methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted on 390 medical records of inpatients prescribed corticoids at the Department of General Internal Medicine, Gia Rai Town Medical Center. Drug-related problems indicators (DRPs) were determined by comparing the prescribed corticoid with the following reference materials: the manufacturer's drug information leaflet; the Ministry of Health's diagnostic and treatment guidelines; and the 2022 Vietnamese National Pharmacopoeia. DRPs were then classified according to Decision 3547/QD-BYT. Results: In 390 medical records. DRPs-C appeared in 23.1% medical records, primarily in the drug selection group 66.4%, dosage 7.3% and inadequate treatment 14.5%. Conclusions: Drug-related problems associated with corticosteroid use in hospitalized patients still commonly occur. Among these, the most frequent issues are inappropriate drug selection and inadequate prevention of gastrointestinal complications in high-risk patients. The results of this study provide a basis for interventions and prospective studies aimed at minimising DRPs-C in clinical practice.
