THE RESULTS OF SURGICAL TREATMENT OF PERIAPICAL CYSTS IN THE UPPER INCISORS USING SURGICAL GUIDE IN 2025-2026

Abstract
Background: Nowadays, technology has deeply influenced many fields, including dentistry. Specifically, the integration of 3D printing in dental surgery offers enhanced efficiency through simplified and accelerated procedures. Consequently, the clinical application of surgical guides for treating periapical cysts has gained significant attention. Objectives: To evaluate the outcomes of surgical treatment for periapical cysts in the maxillary incisors using 3D-printed surgical guides after 1 week and 6 months. Materials and methods: The non-control clinical intervention study was conducted on 42 patients (aged ≥ 18 years) diagnosed with and treated surgically for periapical cysts in the anterior dental basin with the assistance of a surgical guide at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from June 2025 to February 2026. Results: The average surgical time was 27,6 ± 5 minutes. The pain level after 3 days post-surgery was 3,64 ± 1 and after 7 days was 1,5 ± 0,8. The percentage of patients classified as having good results 3 days and 1 week post-surgery was 97.6%, and this rate reached 97,6% after 6 months post-surgery. Conclusions: With the support of surgical guides, incisor periapical cyst surgery is performed quickly and with a high success rate. Further research is warranted to standardize these guided surgical protocols, ultimately optimizing patient experiences and therapeutic outcomes.
