Abstract

Background: Autonomic dysfunction is a common non-motor manifestation of Parkinson’s disease, which markedly impairs quality of life and increases the risks of falls, hospitalization, and mortality. However, in Vietnam, studies evaluating the effectiveness of treatments for autonomic dysfunction remain limited. Objectives: To evaluate treatment effectiveness for autonomic dysfunction and its impact on quality of life in Parkinson’s disease patients.Materials and Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted on 54 patients with Parkinson’s disease and autonomic dysfunction treated at Can Tho Central General Hospital between 2023 and 2025. Results: The median PDQ-8 score decreased from 9 to 5 after 3 months. SCOPA-AUT and OHQ scores showed significant reductions over time, most prominently in patients with orthostatic hypotension. Conclusions: Comprehensive management of Parkinson’s disease combined with appropriate treatment of autonomic dysfunction significantly improves quality of life and non-motor symptoms.
