Abstract

Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease is common in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Objectives: To assess hepatic steatosis using the ultrasoundguided attenuation parameter, related factors, and changes after three months of treatment. Materials and methods: This study at Van Hanh General Hospital from April 2025 to March 2026 included 93 patients in the baseline analysis and 70 patients in a single-arm before-and-after intervention using atorvastatin 20 mg/day plus lifestyle counseling. Results: Disease prevalence was 91.4%. After three months, the ultrasound-guided attenuation parameter decreased from 0.733 to 0.692 dB/cm/MHz and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol from 4.00 to 2.61 mmol/L; 54.3% improved by at least one steatosis grade. Conclusion: The ultrasound-guided attenuation parameter is useful for assessment and short-term monitoring.
