Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Colorectal cancer screening plays an important role in early detection and prevention, but participation in community-based screening remains limited. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of colorectal cancer screening among people aged 45-75 years and to identify associated factors in Can Tho City in 2025-2026. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 980 individuals aged 45-75 years living in Can Tho City during 2025-2026. Results: The prevalence of colorectal cancer screening was 3.6%. Participants with knowledge of screening methods, screening, and cancer prevention were more likely to undergo colorectal cancer screening, with OR = 13.15 (95% CI: 6.19-27.93), OR = 16.81 (95% CI: 6.8941.04), and OR = 8.10 (95% CI: 3.63-18.04), respectively (p < 0.001). Personal and family histories of polyps were also significantly associated with colorectal cancer screening, with OR = 33.50 (95% CI: 11.01-101.96) and OR = 17.29 (95% CI: 4.81-62.16), respectively (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The prevalence of colorectal cancer screening among people aged 45-75 years in Can Tho City was low. Strengthening health communication and education to improve knowledge of colorectal cancer screening and prevention is necessary, together with attention to high-risk groups to enhance community-based screening effectiveness.
