EFFECTIVENESS OF ELECTROACUPUNCTURE COMBINED WITH ACUPRESSURE MASSAGE, MAGNETIC THERAPY, AND PHARMACEUTICAL MEDICINE IN THE TREATMENT OF DEGENERATIVE LOW BACK PAIN

Abstract

Background: Low back pain is one of the leading causes of work disability and imposes a substantial socioeconomic burden due to prolonged treatment, frequent recurrence, and long-term impairment in quality of life. Objectives: To evaluate the treatment outcomes of degenerative low back pain using electroacupuncture combined with acupressure massage, magnetic therapy, and “Doc hoat tang ky sinh TW 3” capsules. Materials and methods: A prospective interventional clinical study was conducted on 90 inpatients with degenerative lumbar spine-related low back pain at Kien Giang Traditional Medicine Hospital. Results: Most patients were aged ≥ 60 years (64.4%), female (83.3%), manual workers (54.4%), and had a disease duration of 1 to ≤ 6 months (72.2%). After 7 and 14 days of treatment, the overall treatment success rates were 34.4% and 73.3%, respectively (p < 0.001). All clinical parameters showed statistically significant improvement (p < 0.001): median VAS decreased from 7 to 4 and 2 points, Schober index increased from 11 cm to 13 cm, fingertip-to-floor distance decreased from 32 cm to 18.5 cm and 10 cm, and median ODI decreased from 25 to 16 and 9 points. Conclusions: The combined regimen of electroacupuncture, acupressure massage, magnetic therapy, and “Doc hoat tang ky sinh TW 3” capsules demonstrated significant effectiveness in pain reduction and functional improvement in patients with degenerative lumbar spine-related low back pain.
