CLINICAL OUTCOMES OF LASER ACUPUNCTURE COMBINED WITH ACUPRESSURE MASSAGE, THERAPEUTIC ULTRASOUND, AND “DOC HOAT TANG KY SINH TW3” PILLS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF DEGENERATIVE LOW BACK PAIN

Abstract
Background: Low back pain due to spinal degeneration is a common condition that leads to functional limitation and reduced quality of life. Objectives: To evaluate the therapeutic outcomes and associated factors in patients with degenerative low back pain treated with laser acupuncture combined with acupressure massage, therapeutic ultrasound, and “Doc hoat tang ky sinh TW3” herbal medication. Materials and methods: A prospective interventional clinical study was conducted on 37 inpatients diagnosed with degenerative lumbar spine pain at Kien Giang Provincial hospital of Traditional medicine. Results: The mean age was 61.41 ± 9.67 years; most participants were female (56.8%), and 70.3% had a disease duration of ≤ 6 months. After 14 days of treatment, the overall “effective” response rate was 86.5% (compared to 0% before treatment, p < 0.001). All clinical parameters showed statistically significant improvement over time (p < 0.001): median VAS decreased from 7 to 2 points; Schober’s test increased from 10 cm to 13 cm; fingertip-to-floor distance decreased from 32 cm to 8 cm; and median ODI decreased from 20 to 7 points. Disease duration <6 months was significantly associated with treatment outcomes (p = 0.021, OR = 0.070, 95% CI: 0.007–0.731). Conclusions: The combination of laser acupuncture, acupressure massage, therapeutic ultrasound, and 'Doc hoat tang ky sinh TW3' capsules showed potential in supporting the improvement of low back pain symptoms associated with spinal degeneration.
