Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a common disease in men, it causes urinary tract disorders that affects to patients’s quality of life. Currently, high-intensity focused ultrasound is a breakthrough in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. This is an effective, minimally invasive, and relatively safe treatment. Objectives: To describe clinical, subclinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of benign prostatic hyperplasia by high-intensity focused ultrasound at Can Tho university hospital. Materials and methods: A retrospective and prospective study was conducted on 136 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia were treated by high-intensity focused ultrasound method at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, from 1/2014 to 9/2021. Results: age of patients was 74.5 years. The mean IPSS score was 23.37±7.85. The quality of life (QoL) score was 4.31±1.19. The mean prostate volume was 48.11±18.24ml. After 1 and 6 month of treatment, IPSS score (23.37 decreased to 19.26) and QoL (4.21 decrease to 3.16) score was significantly improve than pre-treatment. Maximum flow rate was more increased than pre-treatment. Good and fair treatment results was over 80%. Conclusions: The High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound treatment (HIFU) is a safe, effective, minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia.
